The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Anchorage International Airport is looking for a Maintenance Specialist - Electrician - Journey II/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

This position requires that all applicants have an Alaska Electrical Fit card at time of application. If you do not have an Alaska Electrical Fit card, then you need not apply.

  • Maintains and repairs runway and taxiway lighting circuits, parking lot and roadway lighting, regulators, beacons, illuminated wind socks, guidance signs, emergency generators, and transfer switches.  May also maintain overhead door controls, building electric lighting, and gate controls.
  • Install, maintain and repair parking lot, street and exterior lighting systems, electric motors, welders, emergency lights, transformers, switches, boiler controls, and building lighting and controls.
  • Rebuilds and repairs runway and taxiway lighting, fixtures and signs and interior lighting fixtures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Applicants must be able to communicate effectively, in English, over a two-way radio.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Able to work under supervision and independently.
  • Must know the National Electric Code, applicable city and state codes.
  • Must have working knowledge of electrical schematics, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, inspect, repair, adjust and install electrical systems. 
  • Ability to recognize and respond to potentially hazardous situations such as high voltage systems, electrical fires, and electrical failures, broken power lines, etc. and use appropriate response strategies. 
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in solving issues with complex electrical systems.
***This position requires shift work to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays***
Other Licenses/Certifications
Must obtain a Movement Area Driver's License within 60 days of hire. 
Must have or obtain within 90 days a Class B Commercial Driver's License without restrictions. 

Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience, State of Alaska policy, and Collective Bargaining Agreement(s).

Pursuant to revised federal regulations (49 CFR 383), effective April 1, 1992, Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL) will be required of all commercial drivers who operate certain types of vehicles.  An Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required to perform the duties of this position.  Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required drug test.

Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) and Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) certification requirements, which require fingerprinting and a criminal background check. A felony conviction disqualifies a person from APSIN certification. Misdemeanor convictions may also disqualify a person from APSIN certification. The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation.
