The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Region Design & Engineering Services division (Highway Design section) is recruiting for an Engineer/Architect I, Consultant Coordinator position located in Anchorage.

The Consultant Coordinator position assists the Project Manager with procuring and managing contracts for professional engineering services required to develop the project scope, obtain permits, and prepare design road improvement packages (according to FHWA procedures). The Coordinator reviews consultant work products and invoices, and assists in public and agency meetings. Duties also include coordinating technical design issues with other Department functional groups. This position may be called upon to lead an in-house design to develop specifications, estimates, and professionally sealed final plans, prior to advertising for bid. This position may also support the Section by reviewing projects prepared by other squads, archiving, facilitating training, etc. The duties occasionally require the ability to drive a vehicle and travel to remote communities in a small aircraft.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for roadway projects.
  • Familiarity with commonly recognized design standards used for roadway and pathway design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; or similar computer-aided road design software.
  • Proficiency with standard office software such as Word and Excel.
  • Experience with the NEPA process as it relates to construction projects.
  • Experience leading, coordinating, and supervising a multi-discipline team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports such as Design Study Reports.
  • Experience with the public and agency involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.

Note: Positions in this class require professional registration as either an Engineer or an Architect. The employer will designate which professional field is required for each position.

Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
