Job Description
Our AECOM Environment office in Anchorage, AK is seeking candidates for the position of Staff Archaeologist:
Responsibilities:
Conduct archaeological survey and site delineation in Alaska s backcountry.
Excavate and document test pits and/or units within survey areas and archaeological sites of the project as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.
Keep legible and understandable field notes
Provide acceptable field and lab-documentation.
Wash or otherwise clean, sort, catalog, analyze, and prepare for permanent curation all recovered artifacts as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.
Prepare selected samples for specialized studies as directed by the Field/Lab Director and Principal Investigators.
Create electronic spreadsheets, inventories, and provide data entry.
Travel required.
Experience and comfort with work and living in Alaska s backcountry is very important. Archaeologist will be stationed in a remote base camp for long periods of time. Applicant should expect to survey up to 2 miles a day and if needed able to hike into and out of the survey area.
Qualifications:
1-5 years of experience.
Alaskan archaeological experience preferred.
Bachelor s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field, including successful completion of Archaeological Field School. Will consider strong candidate who has already successfully completed Archaeological Field School.
Previous relevant project experience preferred with appropriate recommendations.
Knowledge of and/or experience with electronic spreadsheets, inventories, and data entry.
