The American Cancer Society, Great West Division has a Patient Navigator Intern opportunity in our Anchorage location.
This internship supports the Patient Navigator with daily activities such as:
- Meeting with patients, conducting patient/caregiver needs assessments, ACS Program and community-based resource referrals, and faxing paperwork to the Data Entry Center.
- Provides emotional support to patients and caregivers by listening and if necessary consulting referral to Patient Navigators.
- Provides quality assurance by reviewing all service intake forms for data points. When forms are not complete, contact patients for information before submitting to Data Entry; email and street address, city, and state are required.
- At the direction of the Patient Navigator, conduct follow up phone calls to patients and caregivers in designated time frame.
- Answers phone and conveys messages to Patient Navigator within a designated time frame or meeting patients needs.
- Wig fittings
- Supports Patient Navigator in meeting monthly newly diagnosed and total patients served goals.
- Provides information, facilitation and support to cancer patients, caregivers and families at the host facility, when Patient Navigator is not present and/or as directed by Patient Navigator.
- Gathers personal health information data from patients, caregivers and families to support the mission of ACS when meeting with patients and/or caregivers.
- Communicate regularly with the Patient Navigator regarding patients and/or caregiver needs.
- Contribute to accurate, up to date information to the Cancer Resource Connection.
- Act as a representative of the American Cancer Society within the entire community and especially within the host community.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Completes mid and end of i internship evaluations.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Time Commitment: 12-24 weeks, renewable; minimum 8 hours per week.
This is an unpaid internship.
Position Requirements
Must have very strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be compassionate, articulate, and patient. Must have strong computer proficiency. Experience working in a medical seeing and interacting collaboratively with medical teams is essential. Intern must have healthcare degree in process.
